introduction to chord-based melody writing and passing note rules
simple eighth note passing note expectations
builds on melodies created without passing notes to allow students to hear the ‘bare bones’ of chord-based melodies, then with passing notes
exercise to hear, then circle passing notes with music played, or students circle passing notes without the audio support
Using GarageBand, students can create or select drum loops that they can be placed on one track. On the second track, they can record or play via Keyboard or Smart Strings their chord progression with or without Autoplay. On the third track, students can record their melody with and without passing notes. To encourage ear training, the other students can try to discern which version, with or without passing notes, the melody represents.
