Students use the formula for speed (s=d/t) to calculate their average walking speed. They then use the campus map and the predetermined scale (1 cm = 10 m) to determine the distances between all of their classes. Using their calculated speed, they try to answer the question of whether or not the allowed passing time between classes is enough time for students to arrive on time. The homework has them record their times during actual passings, and account for variables like backpacks, students in the way and encounters with friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, etc. The final analysis asks them to write a detailed breakdown to the school admin using evidence from their analysis.
