PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Genius Hour/ Passion Projects
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if your students
could learn about what they wanted to learn about and be engaged and intrigued by learning? What would it be like if all of your students were doing different things at the same time? Chaotic? Not if the hour is planned with guidelines and focus. That is the aim of Passion Projects.

Passion projects are designed to interest your students in the process of learning. If learning is meaningful, students will be more engaged. What better way to do this than to have them pick the topics!

Process: (This will take place over 3-4 sessions/weeks)
Introduce the topic of Passion Projects in a class meeting.
In class, assign the “I wonder” sheet to get kids thinking.
Send a parent letter home to introduce the parents and welcome their help. Ask parents to help their child create a passion pocket at home. (See pictures)
Begin making folders to hold papers. (I use 2 pocket folders) Color cover pages.
Celebrate! Have a mini celebration to kick off the Passion Project Hour.
Complete questions about likes and skills.
Have an interview with the teacher about the project. Photocopy for your records just in case and then send it home to get parent thoughts or suggestions.
Begin using the time to work on projects. Encourage students to use technology, take trips to the library, interview people etc. to learn more about their chosen topic.
Present their work in any way you wish.

Included in this pack:
Parent letter
Photos and suggestions for passion pockets, anchor chart and celebration ideas
I wonder pages for boys and girls to brain storm (lined and unlined)
Question sheet
Teacher and Student interview form
