I am always searching for ways to inspire and engage readers, so I thought a Passport to Reading might be a fine addition to the repertoire. Using a United States passport for reference, I illustrated the front cover, and added the type. For the interior, I recreated the passport’s basic formula. There is an area where an individual photo of the reader may be added.
I am going to make booklets for the class using several sheets of paper folded in half and bound however is simplest. Students will then record the title of each book they complete, and receive a special stamp of the week. Perhaps there is a page reserved for books they have abandoned. One could add a continent to each page to embrace a multi-cultural feel, or label pages for different genres.
In any case, I hope you are able to include this Passport to Reading in your literacy planning. I would love to see how the concept is used in your classroom. Please honor the fact that these illustrations are free. They are not to be incorporated into any other work beyond personal use in your own classroom.
Thank you for your interest and support. ~Pamela Kennedy
