Great for use with the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, either as an anticipatory set or a concluding project, but also works as a stand-alone activity. Includes step-by-step prewriting process and rubrics for both a narrative essay and a multimedia project. Students will consider and write about a lesson from their past, a reflection from their present, and path they want to take for the future—and how these connect to make a path from where they started to where they are going. If used with A Christmas Carol, this would be similar the lessons from the ghosts of past, present, and future that visit Scrooge.
The pre-writing process walks students through thinking about the situation. Then they will narrow the choices and plan and outline the essay. They will also practice removing unimportant details from a sample paragraph, then present the prewriting for approval before beginning their paper or project.
After completing the Pre-Writing Worksheet, students will begin their essay draft or multimedia project. Student instruction sheet has rubric and can stand alone without pre-writing.
