Thanks for taking a closer look at this item from my store! Needing self-checking activity to help your students practice with regular and irregular past tense verbs? Try these picture puzzles!
This product contains 7 picture puzzles. There are 3 puzzles with regular past tense verbs. Four of the puzzles involve matching irregular past tense verbs. Each puzzle contains 24 sets of present/past tense verbs to be matched; a student who completes all of the puzzles will have worked with 168 different verbs!
To play, students will manipulate the square puzzle pieces until they have matched all of the present tense verbs up to the corresponding past tense verbs. As the pieces are manipulated, a square will be formed. When all the pieces are matched up correctly, a faint Saint Patrick's Day image will appear in the square the students have created.
An accountability sheet is included. On the sheet the students will name the image shown by their completed puzzle. They will list 9 sets of present and past tense verbs they worked with. They will also write 4 sentences using verbs they worked with. (I suggest students complete the sheet each time they work a puzzle.)
I created this product with second through fourth graders in mind. First graders would benefit from the 3 regular past tense verb puzzles, with advanced firsties being capable of working with the irregular verb squares. This would also be an appropriate activity for RTI fifth graders.
I use these self-checking picture puzzles in my classroom regularly. I introduce the activity in small groups so that everyone understands what to do. Once they try a puzzle, the kids are hooked and look forward to doing more. There is a page with picture directions included with this purchase, so your students should be able to solve the puzzles without a small group lesson, if that works better for you.
I hope you enjoy using these self-checking puzzles in your classroom!
