Address common core math and reading standards with this fun and inexpensive art project. Students engage in critical thinking as they hypnotize what kinds of patterns different tools will make, test their hypothesis and discuss their findings. Students will read a book about tools. They will use critical thinking to determine different ways to make marks using various tools. Students will test their hypotheses by making paste paper. Students will follow-up with post-project reflection and analysis. Suggestions for modifications for special education students included. Lesson plan includes: suggested reading list, common core standards for math and English as well as art and science standards, list of tier 2 words, and post-project reflection questions. This project is always a big hit with my students.
Allow 4 class periods for this project.
Appropriate for home schooled students, who could also be involved in measuring and cooking the paste.
