WHAT TOPICS DOES IT COVER?
This is a speech from the first President of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba. In the speech, Lumumba crafts a speech which shows the strength of the people of the Congo in the face of the evils of imperialism. Additionally, Lumumba gives his people a bump in nationalist pride by showing how they defeated the mighty British Empire.
WHAT DO STUDENTS DO?
Students are asked to find the main idea, supporting details and elements of nationalism in 4 chunked sections of the speech.
HOW CAN I USE IT?
1) This can be used as a reading exercise in any class. All that needs to be done is the main idea and the supporting detail of each section.
