President’s Day and 4th of July
Activities for Special Education, English Language Learners
and Primary Students
Here is an easy-to-use unit for President's Day and 4th of July! Most of the activities are open-ended for use with a variety of books or stories, or can be used with children with different abilities.
Included in this unit are:
Patriotic vocabulary cards
Interactive journal pages: Students can summarize or recount three parts of a patriotic story, and illustrate it. The pages are designed to be cut out and pasted in a journal (saves lots of loose papers floating around!)
A patriotic letter template: for a friend, parents, teacher! Or the children can write a letter to George Washington or Abe Lincoln!
Scrambled Sentence to cut out, copy, and illustrate
A patriotic game to create, and write the steps for!
A worksheet to list facts about Abraham Lincoln, and suggested answers. The kids can read or listen to one of the books and write down the facts.
A list of wonderful books, which can be used with the interactive journal, as read-alouds, or guided reading. I have included books about patriotic songs, Abe Lincoln, George Washington, and the 4th of July.
