Description
Students use the following Patterns and Algebra worksheets to identify and create simple number patterns involving addition and subtraction. Students will also learn to use a number line or other diagram to create patterns involving fractions, decimals, and whole number. For the Algebra topic students will complete number sentences that involve more than one operation by calculating the missing numbers.
(PATTERNING)
Students will learn how to:
+ Create and describe number pattern using addition and/or subtraction
+ Use language such as ‘increase’ and ‘decrease’ when responding to number pattern questions
+ Identify the rule used in number patterns
+ Use a mix of fractions, decimals and whole numbers or addition and subtraction when creating a number sentence
+ Appropriate terminology when describing my pattern/ For example, pattern, increase, decrease, missing number, number sentence, number line.
(ALGEBRA)
Students will learn how to:
+ demonstrate the working out required to find the missing operation and missing number.
+ apply my knowledge of multiplication, division, addition and subtraction to complete the number sentence
+ explain the strategies used to find the missing number using appropriate terminology
Included:
+ 3 Worksheets on Patterns
+ 2 Worksheets on Algebra (Number sentences that involve more than one operation by calculating the missing number)
+ PDF Format
+ The PowerPoint™ file can be edited
+ Printing required

Syllabus OUTCOMES:
MA3-8NA analyses and creates geometric and number patterns, constructs and completes number sentences, and locates points on the Cartesian plane
MA3-1WM describes and represents mathematical situations in a variety of ways using mathematical terminology and some conventions
MA3-2WM selects and applies appropriate problem- solving strategies, including the use of digital technologies, in undertaking investigations
