This patterning resource gets your students diving deep into word problems. Students will use the acronym CUBES to analyze the problem given to them (CIRCLE numbers, UNDERLINE the question, BOX key words, EVALUATE the steps needed to solve the problem, SOLVE and check). There is a checklist for CUBES on each problem for students to follow. Each page also includes space for the student to show their work, explain their thinking, and write a closing sentence. There is also a quick self-evaluation and space for teacher feedback.
There are 13 different word problems included in this resource – for each problem there are 2 different versions (the second being a little easier than the first). This allows for easy differentiation for different grade levels or abilities in your class. It also provides a second option for students who need a little extra practice.
There is also a blank template included in the PDF for you to write in your own problems, as well as an EDITABLE PowerPoint file for you to type in your problems or make changes as you see fit.
A full answer key is also provided.
