The activities in this guide help pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students develop an understanding of patterns and sorting.
Students develop skills of patterning, sorting, categorizing and beginning bar graph comprehension. The basic patterns of a-b-ab, a-b-b-a-b-b and a-b-c-a-b-c are presented. The topic of matching is introduced and leads into sorting, categorizing and basic graphing. Although, it is recommended that the activities be completed in the order presented which build on previous skills, each activity can also be completed as standalone to assist in the mastery of specific skills.
This guide is an ideal resource for centers, independent work in the classroom or homework. The activities can be used independently for review or as a form of assessment or in combination with other related classroom activities. They are also the perfect complement to NewPath’s Early Childhood Flip Charts, available separately at www.newpathlearning.com.
