This worksheet provides five different real life situations that students can discuss among themselves in which they have to choose what to do in the light of Paul’s understanding of the Gospel. Obviously the gospel is Jesus’ death and resurrection. But Paul has a certain way of actually applying the gospel to real life situations in Corinthians. Here students are given real life situations to discuss first and then when you go over it, you as the teacher can reveal to them what Paul actually said about those situations based on the gospel. Here, the view of Richard Hays is taken from his famous book Moral Vision of the New Testament. In it, Hays argues that the gospel seems to emphasize three things: community, cross and new creation. Students should already have studied about the gospel a bit and Paul’s take on it for them to do this activity. As a caveat, there are actually no right or wrong answers for some of the questions. The Bible is not a book of prescriptions. This is simply an exercise of how one goes about translating the gospel into real life situations. After the students finish, it would be good to give Paul’s answer to each for the questions for which he does give an answer. He does this all in 1Corinthians.
