EXCERPT 2 Klee & Kandinsky
~ In 1911, Klee returned to Munich, where he had been educated. He joined the German Expressionist group called Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider).
~ The group was founded by Wassily Kandinsky and Franz Marc in 1911.
~ Klee and Kandinsky became lifelong friends. Kandinsky was the elder. They both subsequently taught at the Bauhaus School.
~ Klee had worked in isolation until meeting Kandinsky. Kandinsky gave him the encouragement he needed.
~ Klee was also influenced by the Cubists: Picasso, Braque, and the abstract translucent color planes of Robert Delaunay.
