Paul Revere, His Life and Times is a reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. It can be equally utilized in an ELA or a Social Studies class.
Each of the two passages can be used alone (but in sequence) and they could be assigned as the teacher wishes: in class over a couple of days or more, as homework, as independent projects, etc. The two texts are chronological; Part 1 is titled “Who was Paul Revere?” and Part 2 “Paul Revere and the Revolution”.
Each passage has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and language use work and a short creative writing assignment.
--- a one-page cloze activity using the twelve vocabulary words from Parts 1 and 2 (introduced in the work sheet for each passage).
--- a True or False activity in which students identify the four false statements (of 10) and correct them so that they agree with information they have read in the texts. This would be perfect as a short quiz assessing comprehension.
Answer keys are provided for all student work pages.
