“Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere” so starts Longfellow’s iconic poem about Paul Revere’s horseback ride of April 18-19, 1775. During it he rode through the streets of Concord and Lexington warning that the “British were coming, the British were coming.”
Unfortunately, reality and poetry are sometimes at odds. Case in point, Paul Revere’s ride was cut short and it was up two his two compatriots Samuel Prescott and William Dawes to complete the journey. .........
