Mr. Whiskers and the Kitty Crew deliver a game called the Paw Switcheroo to your class. The Kitty Crew has snatched letters and mixed and switched them all up. Students will use paw prints to change one sound/letter to build a new word. For example, students will use the paw prints to help change bun to bus, map to mop and hop to top. There are 2 different options on how to play this game.
Option 1: This game board is the easier one that only has a few letters to switch. Students build the first word on the game board with the paw print letters. I have my kiddos build the word with magnetic letters too. After they build the first word, they then change one sound to build a new word. They continue to switch one sound to build each new word as they spell with the magnetic letters as well.
Option 2: This game board has children using all of the paw print letters to spell each CVC word. Your kiddos can still use the magnetic letters to build and change one sound.
The recording sheet allows you to choose what 3 game boards you want your students to use.
This game can be used during your Guided Reading and RtI groups. After playing the Paw Switcheroo, use magnetic letters to make the words on the Change One Sound list.
Included in this packet are:
*letter from Mr. Whiskers and the Kitty Crew
*16 different gameboards
*8 different color coded paw print sheets
*8 different words lists to practice Changing One Sound/Letter Substitution in your Guided Reading and RtI groups
This is a great activity to use as an extension to one of your favorite cat books such as Pete the Cat or Splat the Cat.
Your students will think this game is just "purr"fect.
