How to use this novel study:
This is an easy way to hold kids accountable for what they read, have them practice making text connections, and think deeply about what they’ve read. Students will use the top portion of the page to record their text connections. I have my students write their connections on post it notes as they read. They keep their post it notes in their books on the page where they’ve made the connection until they come to reading group. During reading group we take turns sharing our connections and then placing the post its on the page for that chapter in the novel study packet. I also ask students to think of a “thick question” for each chapter that they will ask of the group. We end reading group by asking these questions and discussing them as a group. The kids LOVE this part of reading group and really enjoy thinking of questions that will get their classmates thinking critically!
I hope you enjoy this freebie!
