Do your students need more practice with equal equations? Well, here is the answer to your problems. Students take a card and place it on the game board. The first person who gets five in a row horizontally, vertically, or diagonally, WINS! There is a target number card and four different (2 addition and 2 subtraction) equation cards that match that target number. Once the students have their five in a row, they can record the equations on the recording sheet. There are two different versions of the recording sheet, so students see the equations written both ways. This game/activity is aligned with Common Core Standard 1.OA.7 "Understand the meaning of the equal sign, and determine if equations involving addition and subtraction are true."
