Using marshmallow Peeps is a creative way to motivate and engage your students when writing poetry. So, grab a box of sugary, colorful marshmallow sweets and pair it with the templates in this download for a fun writing experience.

This poetry activity is centered around the Peeps marshmallow candies. Let your students examine and sample (eat) a Peep. Then, use their observations to create a list of adjectives that describe the Peeps. Finally, your students will use the adjectives to write a poem about the candy. Each new line of the poem will feature a new adjective, plus all the adjectives from the previous line.

*Note: you can use any style or color Peep you want. Pink bunnies? Sure! Blue chicks? Go for it!

This activity is best used in a whole group setting in the younger grades to help keep them on track as they write each line of their poem.
