A Peer Discussion emphasizes comprehension through higher-level thinking. First the students are asked to read the story to discover the messages shown in the text. Next they meet to discuss. The discussion either starts or intermingles all students contributing to a summary. Throughout the discussion the teacher can make use of the probes. The probes are designed to help students think critically and demonstrate thinking at levels four, five, and six on the comprehension continuum. Finally the students complete the Prompt.
