Peer Editing Student Checklist to use in Writing Workshop. Realistic Fiction Narrative Writing Peer Edit Checklist.
After your students have written or typed a draft. Split up your class into edit partners and provide this Peer edit checklist to each student. Read through the points and explain any questions that the students may have about the language on the checklist.
Explain to the students that the checklist is really another tool to help everyone to become a better writer, so they need to be honest, but in a nice way. There is a spot to record positive areas of the writing and a sport to elaborate on an area of improvement or weakness in the piece.
After the checklist is completed...I usually check over the comments written by the peer editor to make sure they are complete in the process. These forms then are returned to the original writer, along with their writing and additional revision takes place on post-it notes.
When the final writing piece comes in, I require my students to hand in any peer editing forms that are used and I check that their piece has been revised.
