I created this rubric because I was writing the same comments over and over on papers and notebooks. This allows me to give specific feedback a lot more quickly. The students each have their own copy that they refer to throughout the year.
The rubric uses even numbers to indicate areas of excellence and corresponding odd numbers to indicate areas that need improvement. This can be used in peer editing by having students with specific areas of strength help students who need improvement in those areas.
This rubric focuses on the Texas English II EOC Persuasive essay requirements, but I have left it editable so that you can change it to fit your own focus.
These are the instructions from the rubric:
"Read through the essay and use the numbers below to indicate areas of excellence or areas of need. Once your essay has been evaluated, help those who have a corresponding odd number to your even number, and get help from those who have a corresponding even number to your odd ones. (For example, if you have a 4, help someone who has a 3 write a better thesis statement. If you have a 7, find someone who has an 8 and have them help you to come up with some better examples to support your argument.)"
