This Pencil Management System is a great tool to maintain a good in your classroom management system. It relies on a "Weekly Pencil Log" and a system to reward the good habit of being ready to start the lesson.
-Students are given 3 pencils sharpened and in good shape.
-There will also be a box of pencils available for all students.
-Assign a student job — the “Pencil Manager” — in your Classroom Job System.
-Print the “Weekly Pencil Log” and create a folder for this log listing ALL of your students.
-Choose whether to number the weeks like “Week 3” or assign a specific date on the “Weekly Pencil Log”.
Moving towards Accountability:
-The “Pencil Manager” is accountable for writing the students who don’t bring pencils, sharpen pencils at the end of the day and assuring that the system is working perfectly.
-Let students know that they can exchange their current pencils with no led for another pencil in the pencil box (Don’t mark these students with an “X” in the “Weekly Pencil Log”).
-Rotate the “Pencil Manager” job every two weeks.
-Once a week give students a “Pencil Reward Card” (Pages #5 and/or 6 of this pdf)
Assign one specific day monthly to claim their rewards.
