Students often over-smudge their pencil shading. This package includes a handout showing 5 different ways to shade without smudging to create different textures. It also includes a value scale worksheet to practice 5 major ways of shading and two worksheet variations of shading forms using smudging, hatching and stippling.
This is a great introductory lesson for graphite drawing in the middle grades and a good refresher for high school students to warm up with before a major graphite project.
This is a no prep lesson that usually takes my Grade 8 students 2 hours to complete. I follow these worksheets with my Texture Worksheet that is also available in my store.
*Hint-- If you don't want to get a headache when the entire class starts stippling, tell students to leave their hand on the page while dotting with the pencil. It is faster and much quieter!
