This is a lab activity during which students will collect data and draw conclusions about the variables contributing to the speed of a pendulum. It includes lab sheets on three levels. The medium level has students test the pendulum's length and mass. The higher level has students also test the angle from which the pendulum is released. The lower level has students compare three pendulum lengths but no other variables.
I use this activity during my unit on the scientific method, but it could also be used to support a unit on forces and motion.
Included in the pdf file is two pages of teacher notes and the three levels of student lab sheets. An answer key is not provided as the answers will vary.
*Please Note* Basic lab equipment is required for this lab activity including string, masses (nuts for machine bolts), meter sticks, tape, protractors, timers, and calculators.
