This is an activity that I have done in my classroom for some time. Actually the original idea was taken from an activity that I did as a child. The purpose of this activity is to encourage students to continue to practice their penmanship. Unfortunately, it seems that with each school year there is less and less time to work on these extremely important fine motor skills. For my class I have written each of the pages out on chart paper and display a new page each day until the writing project has ended. There are twenty-one pages and I usually start this after Winter Break to get my students re-focused. I know that not everyone has the time to write out each page so there is a set of pages that has the facts written out so you can display one of these pages each day. I have left out the illustrations on purpose. I tell my students that they need to use their imagination and illustrations to bring the facts to life. This is a great way to incorporate non-fiction elements in your classroom. My students have definitely enjoyed it.
