This activity was revised and a second activity added to include preposition cards for Cariboo game or Secret Square type activity.
There are a variety cards to include pictures with words and without words.
The activities provides opportunity to work with sequencing and directional concept vocabulary.
The vocabulary words targeted are first, last, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, before, after, last, middle, right, left, infront, beside, into, over, and between. The words are presented to the students through the cards and demonstrated before the activities.
For the musical chairs type activity, students are divided into groups of 6 to 7 students around a table. A set of cards is placed at each table. Music is played as in a game of musical chairs with the students rotating around the table. When the music stops, students take the card in front of them and find their spot in a line in relation to the middle.
The 2nd activity consists of preposition squares that can fit into the doors of a Cariboo game. If you don’t have one don’t fret. You can make a similar game using the lids from fruit juice containers. Just use Velcro or tape to position them on the tops of the covers. You can put rewards under some of the lids such as stickers, puzzle pieces, or possibly a key that will open a lock. The students can lift the lids after describing or finding the picture and find if something is hidden underneath.
