PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Penguins! Penguins! Penguins! Let's hear it for penguins! Penguins are a winter favorite in elementary classrooms! This penguin resource will have your little penguin researchers thinking like scientists! Just add your favorite informational books about penguins and you are ready to teach your primary students about text features and research.

This resource has been completely updated for 2015. It has doubled in size from the original resource. If you purchased this previously, download it again! Updates are always free!

Included:

A Rookery of Penguin Facts: Use these pages to make a class poster. Children can then use the penguins to write facts on and post on the class poster to share. (Black and white penguins are included to save on ink.)

Research Page Cover: A cover page for you to use if you wish to turn your students' work into a more published-looking project. This would be great to show at parent teacher conferences.

KWL: I like to do these before the class schema lesson to help students organize their thinking.

Penguin Schema Chart: I love schema charts for teaching about prior knowledge and misconceptions. This resource includes a class schema poster and an individual interactive schema activity.

Text Feature:I read an informational text that is rich in text features. As I read, I point out the different text features in the text by pinching the matching text feature on the pinch card and discussing it. When students have had enough exposure, I have them use the pinch cards, and complete the other pages.

New Facts: Students write one new fact on each of four different penguins to reinforce new learning.

For the Love of Penguins: Students write their four favorite facts about pumpkins learned during the unit. Graphic organizer included.

Round & Round: Children put the stages of the penguin life cycle in order. Under each interactive flap, they write what they think is the most important fact about each of the stages of the life cycle. This can be used as an assessment at the end of the unit or as a pre-assessment before you begin.

Penguin Research Recording Page: Children need a page to record their research.

Playful Penguins:This is an informational bump game that is played in partners and reinforces all of the great penguin facts your students have learned.
