This 27 page document will teach your students all about penguins. Included in this purchase:
I have a similar listing for this product. I took all of the colored fills and boxes and made them black and white for those of you who need to conserve ink.
1. A 16 page book on penguins that includes pictures/pictures with captions. This information covers what a penguin looks like, a penguin's habitat, what a penguin eats, a penguin's predators, nesting and young, and what penguins do for fun.
2. Penguin Fact Cards: There are 12 Penguin Fact Cards your students can use to learn more about the different types of penguins that live in the southern hemisphere.
3. There are three activities that support the above. First, there is a Venn Diagram for children to compare and contrast penguins that they learn about. I have also had children compare and contrast penguins to birds they see in their neighborhood.
There is a data collector for children to use to collect information on penguins from the Penguin Fact Cards.
Also, I included a writing activity that I do with my students. After reading the book on penguins, students are asked to think about what life would be like if they were a penguin. They must use the information that they learned from the text to write the summary about what their day would be like. I included the graphic organizer that I use with my students to help them organize thier information. This activity is similar to writing a report, however, children are writing from the perspective of a penguin. This makes the activity a higher level task.
Making non-fiction texts has always been an interest of mine. I gather information for these texts from numerous resouces. I use these texts for various activites during my Daily 5/Cafe Routines.
