Every year, my class spends a week studying penguins. They love these cute little creatures! I wanted to incorporate language skills into my unit so I created a page of sentence strips that uses the word 'penguin' in three different forms: singular, plural, and possessive. Students can cut the strips out and then paste them to the singular, plural, or possessive worksheets. The sentences are also a mix of fact and fiction, so I included a fact and fiction worksheet as well. If you have your students do the fact/fiction worksheets...there is also a sequencing activity that can be done. All the sentences that are fiction will make a story about a purple penguin named Lilac. I have my students number the sentences after they have pasted all their strips on the fiction page. I have them read them to each other so they can hear the story to make sure it makes sense. I teach second grade and they are challenged by (but enjoy!)these worksheets. This unit could be modified to fit many different grade levels!
