This is a positive behavior management system I use in my Kindergarten classroom. This idea came about after a vertical alignment meeting. Second grade teachers shared their concern that the Common Core Standards don’t introduce money until 2nd grade. We decided to go over all coins and their values to prepare them for 1st and 2nd grade.
Students earn Pennies for good behavior. They do not earn a penny for EVERY good thing they do, just things that stand out. Students fill their 10s frame with their pennies and trade it in for a dime when full. If the student has 2 dimes by the end of the month, they get to attend a “Penny Party”. Parties can be decided by the students or by the teacher. I always blow the first one out of the water to set a tone. I hope you enjoy this!
