- 4-PS3-1: Use evidence to construct an explanation relating the speed of an object to the energy of that object. (The faster a given object is moving, the more energy it possesses)
- 4-PS3-3: Ask questions and predict outcomes about the changes in energy that occur when objects collide. (Emphasis is on the change in the energy due to the change in speed, not on the forces, as objects interact.)
The Penny Pool is an experiment to test the transfer of energy. It also is focused on the creation of asking questions, making predictions based off of the questions and recording the outcome.
You will need: Poster boards with a triangle drawn on them and a starting line that is 20 cm away from the tip of the triangle (these work best laminated); 16 pennies; 1 quarter; 1 nickel
