Please note that my version of History Alive Ch.17 powepoint is not included, but I can definitely email upon request. We are lucky to be able to use ipads for this, but it you can easily pull this off without them. Please contact me if you have any questions at all! Thanks, and enjoy :)
People of the West Project!
First and Last Name:
Tests are often times the best way for a teacher to determine whether or not their students understand the material. However, with STAAR on the horizon, I figured you might be pretty fed up with tests. So I've decided to give you an opportunity to show me how much you know about westward expansion in an exciting experiential activity instead! Below, you will find detailed information and instructions, as well as suggestions and helpful hints for everything. Enjoy :)
Step 1: The Magic Sombrero!
Draw a group of Westerners from the Magic Sombrero! No complaints please. They're all very interesting :)
Step 2: Review My Resources/People of the West Journals!
For the next two weeks, a portion of each class period will be focused on discovering information about one of the six groups of westerners. You can look forward to mini activities, Story of Us clips, History.com videos, reading and journaling, plus much more! Remember that you can review all of the information about each group of westerners using any of the resources listed below. Become an expert! The more knowledgeable you and your group are, the more fun you're going to have with this project. So get online and read, watch relevant videos, and post stuff on edmodo!

Step 3: Comprehension by Creation!
You will be attacking this step individually for your group of westerners, but you are encouraged to collaborate with each other. I recommend working on the same thing at the same time. Stick together!

Create an Animoto (post to edmodo)

Step 4: The Story of Us Documentaries!
We've been watching a lot of History Channel's “America: The Story of Us” in class lately. The time has now come for us to create our own documentaries! Please refer to the document titled People of the West Documentaries for detailed information about this portion of the project.
