Description
This is a 10 page document that teaches students to solve truly challenging percent application problems. Each page has a problem in the center, with 6 questions/prompts surrounding the question, that will help students solve the problem.
I created this resource to help my students learn to think critically about tough application questions. By completing this activity students will start to learn the thinking process they should have when solving challenging problems. The prompts around the question will help students develop a deep understanding of the content, will help the students learn what questions they should be asking themselves during problem solving activities, and will help the students become critical thinkers.
Each question takes about 20 minutes for the students to complete. I modeled the process for the first question, and gave students 3 problems to solve per class. You could also break it down, and have them do just one a day. This activity will require about 3 hours of work time if you complete all 10 activities. The questions are rigorous, and if given to lower level students, will require quite a bit of teacher assistance. High to mid level students will be thrive and be challenged.
Covers the following topics:
~ Part to whole, part to part, and whole to part comparisons
~ Finding the percent change
~ Applying percent of a number
~ Percent change in area
Answers are included
