Description
This percentage word problems Valentine's Day resource is a fun way to change up how your students practice calculating percentages. It includes 14 problems, 15 answer hearts to be matched to correct problems (leaving one unused), answer key, and teacher directions for different ways to use the activity. All of these word problems are relevant to the real world and will be intriguing to students as they see real world applications of percentages.
There are two suggested options for how this activity can be carried out in class.
Option 1: This no-prep method allows teachers to simply hand out the worksheet and answers page and then students solve the problems and cut and paste the answer hearts to the correct spot.
Option 2: Although more teacher prep is included prior to the execution of this version of the activity it can be a little more engaging for students and can even be turned into a competition. The teacher prints and cuts multiple copies of the answer hearts beforehand and places them around the classroom. Then as students solve each problem they can get up and locate the heart with the answer they are looking for. This could be done individually or as partnerships.
No matter which way you choose to use this resource, both you and your students are sure to enjoy the change-up that this will bring to practicing solving equations!
