This is a set of five handouts (with keys) that give students an opportunity to grasp the concept of how .25 = 25% = 1/4 and .50 = 50% = 1/2. Students will mentally divide numbers in half and in quarters to arrive at solutions. Conversely, students will mentally multiply numbers by two and by four to arrive at other solutions. One key concept covered is the understanding of how to arrive at 50% (i.e. half) of an odd number.

Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part and the percent.
Apply and extend previous understandings of division to divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.
