Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief is an engaging, fantasy-oriented book about a boy named Percy Jackson who finds out his is a demi-god. It appeals to Middle School-aged students. Not only is it a fantasy-rich story filled with twists and turns, it also covers Greek Mythology to tie in a Social Studies theme as well.
This reading/writing project contains 12 Google Forms quizzes developed from the book and an essay writing project.
Students will read the book in sections then take a quiz over the chapters. The lay out of the quizzes is based on the size of the chapters or importance of the content in each chapter. Students can read independently, read in partners, read in whole group, or have the book read aloud to them, in order to take the quizzes each day.
Quiz size ranges from 5 - 10 questions. The total number of questions combined for all the chapters is 100.

Once you have purchased this reading/writing project, you will receive a link so you can access the Percy Jackson Lightning Thief Folder. Each quiz in the folder is shared in a read only format. You will simply make a copy to add the folder and its content to your google drive. Once you have made a copy, you can edit and assign the quizzes to your students.
If you haven't used google forms before, it is AMAZING! These quizzes are set up in google forms. Each day you will go into google classroom and create an assignment for that day. When assigning the quiz, you will click create assignment, type in your heading and information, then click the drive button to add your quiz attachment. Then your google drive will open and the quizzes you have made a copy of will be available for you to attach. Select the quiz you wish to attach and assign it to all of your students. The quiz will then be available to all of your students in their google classroom. The students can then take the quiz. It will save their scores for you, so you are able to record them for a grade.
If Google Forms is overwhelming to you, you can also print a version of the quiz. The students can then complete written quizzes instead of online quizzes.
The Writing Project will take 7 days to complete, concluding with a typed narrative essay written by your students.
Imagine that you have just discovered that you are a half-blood. Write a fictional essay describing your life as a demi-god. Who are your parents? What is life like for you? Do you possess special abilities? What cabin do you belong to at Camp Half-Blood? Etc.
Provided is a 7 day breakdown complete with 5 daily writing prompts breaking the essay into pieces that the students can complete a day at a time.
