It didn't take long after I began my teaching career for me to realize I needed a way to feel like I could control all of the different needs coming my way throughout the day. I struggled to prioritize what to do first after school. The more I struggled to prioritize, the longer it took me to actually get the tasks done. The result was feeling overwhelmed.
After much thought, I created a half sheet of paper that divided my tasks into 3 main categories:
1. The Students ( most important): I list out what students I need to meet with or talk to for various reasons throughout the day or week.
2. The Adults ( Parents, Teachers, Admin): I list out who I need to talk to or email back sooner rather than later!
3. Before School and After School: Here I list the MOST important things I need to do when there are not students in my room. Right after school I read my list and get to work.
The list is very simple and can be printed out on colored paper to make it a bit more lovely to look at during your work day. Enjoy!
