This is a multi-day performance task geared towards fourth grade following CCSS Curriculum Maps and Standards. It fits with the ELA Unit 3 Animals are Characters, too. The overarching goal is RIT.4.9 Integration of Knowledge and Ideas.
This performance task asks students to become non-fiction book authors to create a book about a specific dog breed. Students can work individually or in small groups to research, plan, and publish a short non-fiction book. This task allows the integration of informational text standards as well as writing, speaking and listening, and language standards. It can be applied many ways in the classroom and is easily differentiated for all of your learners.
