In Tailoring Towers students use data on the tallest building in their chosen city to practice working with scales and creating scale drawings. As architects, they have to create a replica of a building for a special exhibition and they solve problems and learn vocabulary used in this industry along the way.
Teacher Guide - The teacher guide provides helpful information about the lesson, including Common Core State Standards addressed and a sound bite you can use to get your students connected to the lesson.
Level 1 Activity - The activity sheets always start with repeated practice of a core skill matched to a Common Core State Standard, as set out in the Teacher Guide. Level 1 can be used on its own.
Level 2 Activity - Students build off of their activities in Level 1 and are required to integrate a different skill or set of skills with increasing complexity.
Challenge Activity - This is designed to require critical thinking skills and stretch students to reason with math and data to come to conclusions. These activities work well with students in pairs or small groups where they can discuss the math.
Finale Activities - Every activity sheet also includes a finale that you can use to extend the math lesson into another subject (usually ELA). These could be assigned in a second lesson or for homework.
Complete Answer Key - All answers to Level 1, Level 2, and Challenge Activities.
Job Description – Each Performance Task places students in the role of a real world career. Use the Job Description to give students more information about the career, including entry-level education, median pay, and job outlook.
