This hands on activity requires students to rearrange shapes in as many ways a possible.
This document is set out in two pages.
Page 1 includes a variety of shapes for students to cut and manipulate. It is recommended that copies on this sheet are made on an alternative colour than white.
Page 2 includes a scaled matrix whereby students manipulate their shapes to create irregular objects of minimum and maximum perimeter. By trialling, testing and comparing they come up with a number of combinations.
They reflect on the strategies they used in a series of short questions included on page two.
This activity has been used in a number of middle years classes where students were actively engaged in the task, competing with each other to complete the task to the best of their ability.
