This is an in-class math project I have done with my 3rd grade students for 3 years. After we learn perimeter, area and geometry I use this project for the application piece. My students love this project and are very reflective and engaged.
We have a story titled "My Very Own Room" in our Texas Treasure's book that I pair with this math project.
Students get a 3D box room and they have to find the area and perimeter of it in order to carpet, paint, or wallpaper their room. They can use different measuring tools to do this (grid paper, rulers, etc). Then they have to create 3D foil furniture and label their vertices, faces and edges. The download is for the instructional piece and the student reflection guide. The students create a book with this download and follow instructions on each page.
OPEN THE PREVIEW TO SEE AN EXAMPLE ROOM CREATED BY ONE OF MY STUDENTS. THE BOOKLET IN THE PICTURE HAS HER REFLECTION GUIDE (this download) INSIDE.
