Looking for a project for your kids to do independently when you are working with a group... This is it. My kids always LOVED this, especially my GT kids who were wanting something different that they could manipulate.
This project is set up to work for your kids who are GT, Med and Low. There are 2 sets of shapes that are leveled and assigned to either Low/Med students or High/GT students. I have also included booklets to extend the lesson and push the kids who are ready to be pushed to the next level.
Short explanation of this activity:
Student pulls a shape from the bag. All shapes in the bag are 4 sided and 2 of the dimensions are given to them. They have to use their knowledge to figure out the other 2 dimensions.
Next, students draw the shape in their booklet and determine the perimeter and area of both shapes.
Intermediate booklet requires students to combine 2 shapes to find the perimeter of the larger shape. Its not as easy as they think but once they catch on, their thinking strategies help them.
Advanced booklet requires students to combine 3 shapes and find the perimeter.
