This project allows students to exercise their creativity while mastering their measurement skills! Students will...
1.) Design and draw a monster, consisting of only straight lines.
2.) Use a ruler to draw and measure each side of their monster.
3.) Calculate the perimeter of their monster using a variety of mathematical tools.
4.) Name and color their monster.
5.) Imagine and describe their monster's character traits, favorite things, historical and/or scientific details.
6.) Plan, draft, revise, and publish a written piece about their monster (either a story, a poem, or an informational article.)
7.) Combine all of these pieces together into one project to display and share with the class.
My fourth graders gave me lots of ideas to help me design this project, and I have been so amazed and impressed by their creativity as they work on completing their Perimeter Monsters!
