From Lacy Jane:
Peel and Pinch Perimeter - The Greatest Lesson for Sliced Bread!
Teach students the idea and concept of perimeter with a common sense approach and real world objects in this hands-on, manipulative lesson. This visual and very sensory approach using slices of bread help students fully comprehend the concept of perimeter and linear measurement.
Customary inches or metric centimeters - either may be used for measuring the perimeter in this lesson.
The Peel and Pinch Perimeter packet contains a complete lesson plan and the student activity sheet. This lesson can easily be implemented as a math center and may be practiced individually, in a group or as partners.
Peel and Pinch Perimeter is a terrific introduction to perimeter and a valuable follow up lesson. This activity could be used as hands on, performance based assessment after a perimeter unit has been taught. For some students, this activity may be used as a remedial lesson or tutorial activity.
