### PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

These pages contain three types of activities:

1. Measuring to find the perimeter of objects. These include Tangram pieces, Pentominoes, and common classroom items such as the cover of a Math book and a tabletop. All measurements are to the nearest whole inch, foot, centimeter, or meter.

2. Measuring to find the perimeter of polygons on a page. All the Polygons are sized to allow practice in measuring to the nearest unit (either inch or cm).

3. Calculating a side length when the perimeter is known. These activities stress the use of appropriate equations. There is also an explicit discussion of the different ways to find the perimeter of a rectangle.

All of the activities are included in the PDF file.

There are two Word files included, containing images that need to be precisely sized. One has the activities with the polygons to be measured.

The other has sheets of 1-inch and 1-centimeter grid paper on both legal and letter-sized paper. Ideally, teachers can laminate one sheet for each student, with the centimeter grid on one side and the inch grid on the other.

These are for laying out rectangles using 1-inch colored tiles and drawing rectangles of different sizes. There is a page containing the 1-inch grids both 7” and 8” wide – some printers will not be able to print a full 8” wide grid.

The “Measuring to find perimeter” activities are appropriate for 2nd and 3rd graders. The activities involving calculating side lengths and using equations may be difficult for most 3rd graders, but are appropriate for 4th and 5th graders.
