I will be using them the first day of chemistry class - I give each student entering my classroom an element symbol card and have them find their seat by matching the symbol to the element's name which is taped to a desk. Later in the semester, I will use them for matching the symbol and name, and have students classify the elements. I use them for review by pulling a symbol card and asking some questions about the element, such as group, period, mass, type of element, etc.
I can also use them to assign projects. I let the students draw a card, and that is the element they will work with, whether we are drawing Lewis dot diagrams, or drawing electron configurations, or researching the discovery of an element. Use them in group work too - each group chooses 4-8 cards for their assigned research or drawings.
The students especially enjoy creating the wall-sized Periodic Table - they are proud of the element card they colored and personalized - and the table can stay on the wall all year!
I get a lot of use out of these cards because you can do so many different projects with them.
