My students love station activities during Science class. Students enjoy moving around the room while they work, and small tasks keep the students engaged for longer periods of time. My students can typically complete all 6 stations within one 45 minute class period.
In this activity, students learn the basics about the different groups on the Periodic Table. Students will also color code their own periodic tables. I used the periodic table linked below, which I found on sciencegeek.net, but any blank-line periodic table will work. http://www.sciencegeek.net/tables/ClassesTable.pdf
The document includes a student worksheet and 6 station sheets. The student worksheet is a two page document (or one page double sided) that has a few guiding questions for each station. These guiding questions address the key properties I want them to know about that group of elements. Each station sheet has directions, an example showing students what to color, and a linked video or webpage to help students answer the guiding questions. I would recommend having the computers ready on the website.
