This is a 2 page document. The first page is a complete lesson plan to guide the teacher. Directions are brief as it is intended for an open classroom setting where students are allowed to choose from the 9 activities on the tictactoe (also known as a choice board). This model came from a gifted training (a.k.a. cluster model approach).
The second page is the actual page that the students will work from. There are a variety of activities from acting, artwork, creating games, basic research, etc.
Depending on the amount of time allowed to work on this in class it could take 1-3 weeks to complete.
The description at the beginning of the lesson is as follows:
By using this tic-tac-toe board students will be able to explore the seemingly endless information contained on the Periodic Table of Elements. Choices are given so that students can learn information that is more specifically of interest to them and also allows them to choose learning modalities that are best suitable for them personally. The periodic table is a perfect example of the endless learning paths students can take with different subjects. As they begin to discover what there is to learn about the elements it will pique their curiosity and lead them to wanting more.
*** While this lesson was created to be used with a gifted or cluster group it could be used in particular grades with a whole class approach.
